Dr. Progyateg Chakma (Dr. Chakma) earned his bachelor’s degree in Applied Chemistry and Chemical Engineering from the University of Dhaka in 2014. He then began his doctoral studies under the supervision of Dr. Dominik Konkolewicz at Miami University in Ohio in 2015, where his research focused on introducing adaptability into polymeric materials through dynamic thiol-Michael chemistry and nucleophilic substitution. After completing his Ph.D. in 2020, during which he was recognized as a dissertation scholar, he transitioned to the University of Washington, Seattle, to conduct postdoctoral research in the Golder lab, focusing on mechanochemistry for radical polymerization. In 2023, Dr. Chakma moved to the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, where he explored peptoid chemistry in the Chunlong Chen group for applications in materials science and bio-inspired catalysis. In Fall 2025, he joined the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Kennesaw State University as a faculty member, where his research group aims to develop functional building blocks and materials by a unique amalgam of fundamental organic chemistry with polymer and materials chemistry through utilizing techniques such as peptoid synthesis, self-assembly, bio-conjugation, and mechanochemistry, with key focus on sustainability and bio-inspired applications.
In his free time, Dr. Chakma enjoys exploring nature through photography and hiking. You might also find him playing cricket at amateur and semi-professional levels around Atlanta!
